PROJECT DESCRIPTION
A Lower Manhattan landmark, the Pavilion at Brookfield Place, is a public space that serves as an entrance to the Fulton Street Transit Center, accommodating approximately 100,000 commuters and visitors daily.
A pair of 54-foot-tall funnel-shaped, sculptural steel columns supports the roof and softly curved glass curtain walls, creating a lantern-glow from the 8,000-square-foot pavilion at night. Each column is composed of five separate vertical tiers, with the tubes held together by a continuous elliptical steel-ring plate. The two columns are tied together with deep beams concealed in the roof to support the weight of hung-glass curtain walls, while also providing lateral stability to maintain stability during wind and earthquakes.
Opening in 2015, the $3.5 billion resort is a 45-minute flight from Miami, Fla. Destined to be a masterpiece unlike any in the Caribbean, it is projected to contribute $11.2 billion to the Bahamian economy over the next 20 years and create 12,000 new jobs.
The project features 1,000-acre land coverage, about 2,500 hotel rooms and residences from Rosewood, Grand Hyatt, SLS Lux, and the Baha Mar Casino & Hotel, 30 restaurants and bars, a 2,000-square-foot performing arts center, 30,000-square-foot ESPA spa, Sense spa, 200,000 square feet of meeting facilities, an 18-hole masterpiece Jack Nicklaus Signature course and a 100,000 square-foot casino — the Caribbean’s largest.
