CCA Broke Ground on The Pointe Lifestyle and Residential Development

August 6, 2015

On August 6, 2015, China Construction America (CCA) broke ground on The Pointe, a high-end lifestyle and residential development in downtown Nassau, The Bahamas.

Positioned as a world-class lifestyle and residential complex, The Pointe is poised to become one of the region’s most sought-after destinations. Scheduled for completion in 2017, The Pointe will consist of 110 condos, a 200-room hotel, movie theaters, retail shops, a performing arts center, a spa, entertainment facilities, multiple restaurants, a marina and a parking garage. The project is expected to create over 200 construction jobs and 500 permanent jobs.

“Our commitment to The Bahamas is stronger than ever,” said Ning Yuan, president of CCA. “The Pointe is an exciting project that will create the ultimate downtown destination for both tourists and Bahamians. It will contribute significantly to the Bahamian economy in the form of job creation and long-term tax revenue and will serve as a catalyst for redeveloping the entire downtown waterfront.”

“This is a development that will delight residents and visitors alike,” said Daniel Liu, senior vice president of CCA. “It represents the beginning of the revitalization of the downtown area and will ensure that Nassau becomes a thriving epicenter of culture, commerce and recreation in the Caribbean.”

Prime Minister Perry Christie recognized CCA’s capabilities in infrastructure and resort construction. More importantly, he acknowledged CCA’s contributions to the Bahamian economy and commitment to The Bahamas.

“The Pointe is expected to provide impetus to the growth of new enterprises, affording opportunities for the generation of premium, boutique-style businesses in Bahamian fashion, art, antiques and in music and cultural presentations,” Christie said. “I look forward to it coming to fruition in the earliest possible time and to this project being the catalyst that will propel both Bahamian and non-Bahamian stakeholders forward.”

During signing ceremony for the purchase of the property last October, Christie said the project would help realize his dream of reinvigorating downtown Nassau. The Bahamian government wanted not only a competent buyer to upgrade the hotel, but a visionary developer that would maximize the potential associated with the property to deliver significant benefits to local residents.

CCA completed the acquisition of the six-acre property for The Pointe in December 2014. The Pointe is entirely funded by CCA, which will serve as the sole investor, developer and contractor for the project.

Guisen Yuan, Chinese ambassador to The Bahamas, noted that a bilateral relationship based on mutually beneficial principles has continued to grow and thrive. He said the visa waiver program that took effect last year and the prospect of opening direct flights between China and The Bahamas will help boost the country’s tourism industry.

“The Pointe does not only belong to CCA,” Yuan said. “It also belongs to the Bahamian people and government. CCA has demonstrated its outstanding capabilities and impeccable integrity over the years. I believe The Pointe will become a new sought-after destination in downtown Nassau.”

Also in attendance was Kim Guadagno, lieutenant governor of New Jersey.

“I congratulate CCA, a New Jersey headquartered company, on the ground breaking of its new resort,” Guadagno said.

Others attending the groundbreaking ceremony included Dame Marguerite Pindling, governor general of The Bahamas; Philip E. Brave Davis, deputy prime minister and minister of works and urban development of The Bahamas; James Simpson, senior advisor to Chairman Ning Yuan and former commissioner of transportation for New Jersey; and other key community, government and business representatives.
