CCA Announced Apparent Low Bidder for NJDOT Pulaski Skyway Contract 3

May 23, 2013

CCA Civil was announced as the apparent low bidder out of eight bidders for the Pulaski Skyway Contract 3, owned by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).

If CCA Civil is awarded the contract with a bid amount of approximately $126 million, it will mark a significant breakthrough in expanding the company’s operational footprint.

The Pulaski Skyway is a landmark structure in New Jersey which was opened to traffic in 1932. As an important part of Route 1&9, the bridge connects Jersey City, South Kearny and Newark, and serves as an express link to and from the Holland Tunnel. The existing steel truss structure is 18,480 feet long with sections crossing the Passaic River and Hackensack River. After coordinating with relevant authorities and various stakeholders, NJDOT came to the conclusion that the span needed to be rehabilitated to meet the current safety requirements and demands.

The Pulaski Skyway Contract 3 involves deck replacement in the northbound direction. The project is viewed as challenging because there needs to be minimal impact on the estimated 67,000 vehicles that use the bridge daily. During the 21-month contract period, the northbound lanes will be closed and a shield will be installed to fully encompass the entire bridge until the work is done.
