New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and MTA Unveil Underpass at New Hyde Park Road as Part of Third Track

On Aug. 24, 2019, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo joined MTA officials in New Hyde Park to mark the latest milestone — an underpass running beneath the train tracks — as part of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)’s Third Track effort.
The underpass at New Hyde Park Road replaces an at-grade crossing that previously stood at the busy intersection, which was originally scheduled to reopen around Labor Day but was completed early. The LIRR 3rd Track Constructors (3TC) project team scheduled a 48-hour double track outage in July that led to the successful installation of the New Hyde Park Bridge.
3TC, a partnership between CCA Civil, Dragados USA, John P. Picone and Halmar International Construction, won the LIRR Expansion project in December 2017. The New Hyde Park Road crossing is one of eight to be eliminated as part of the Third Track project, which aims to build a 10-mile third track on the LIRR’s Main Line between Floral Park and Hicksville.
