CCA Weathered Hurricane Sandy
October 29, 2012
Hurricane Sandy made landfall along the New Jersey shore, bringing high winds and heavy rainfall.
The hurricane knocked out power to more than 8 million people along the east coast, causing serious transportation interruptions and power outages. CCA HQ on the waterfront of the Hudson River in Jersey City and CCA’s jobsites in the Tri-State Area were located in some of the hardest hit areas. Thanks to CCA’s emergency preparedness, the company weathered the natural disaster with no personnel injury or casualty and very limited property damage. CCA HQ and jobsites in the Greater New York Area reopened on October 31, while the states of New York and New Jersey were still in the process of slow restoration.
Before slogging through America’s east coast, Hurricane Sandy swept The Bahamas between October 24 and 26. By closely watching the weather conditions on the ground, the management team adopted proper emergency action plans and guided all the employees through the adverse weather safely, including over 200 staff and 1,000 or so construction workers. The construction of the project came back to order shortly after the hurricane was over.
Hurricane Sandy is the largest Atlantic hurricane on record, with winds spanning 1,100 miles. Being the tenth hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season, Sandy is estimated to have caused losses of over $50 billion, including business interruptions.
