CCA Announces Its 2019 Top 10 News and Events

1. CCA Signs Facility Agreement for Argentina PPP Project Corridor B

In April, CCA signed the $1.06 billion facility agreement for the Argentina PPP Project Corridor B at the first Belt and Road CEO Conference in Beijing. Signing the agreement at the conference was a milestone for the project, CCA’s first P3 project and the first P3 project in Argentina awarded to a Chinese company. The achievement was the result of teamwork and synergy between China and Argentina.

2. One Thousand Museum Achieves Substantial Completion and Wins Industry Awards

In June, One Thousand Museum, the Zaha Hadid-designed skyscraper in downtown Miami, received its temporary certificate of occupancy. This uniquely designed residential tower stands 63 stories tall and offers a six-star lifestyle with amenities, including private elevators, multiple pools, private rooftop helipad, event space, indoor aquatic center and a sky lounge. Recognized as an engineering breakthrough in 2019, it has won multiple awards since its substantial completion, including ENR’s 2018 Best Global Project – Specialty Construction, ENR’S 2019 Best Regional Projects Award in the residential category, ENR’S 2019 Excellence in Safety Award of Merit, International Property Awards 2019 – Americas Residential High-Rise Architecture Award, South Florida Business Journal (SFBJ) 2019 Structure Awards – Best Architecture and Design Project and ACEC New York – 2019 Diamond Award in Engineering Excellence.

3. Award-Winning Baha Mar Boosts Resort Business in the Bahamas

In April, the Baha Mar Resort project won the China Construction Industry Association’s Luban Award, the Chinese construction industry’s most prestigious award. The biennial award recognizes CCA’s excellent performance on the largest resort project in the Western Hemisphere. Winning the award acknowledges CCA’s high-quality work and strong quality control. Since Baha Mar’s opening, revenue per available room was up 27 percent, and the Bahamas has been attracting more luxury travelers.

4. Plaza Construction Completes Tallest Residential Building in SoHo

Plaza Construction has completed 565 Broome Street, the tallest residential building in SoHo, New York City. The 330,000-square-foot project, which includes 115 condominiums in two 25-story towers is Pritzker Prize-winning Renzo Piano Building Workshop’s first residential project in New York City. The cast-in-place towers’ envelope consists of a custom-profile aluminum and glass curtain-wall system with curved glass corners to maximize views of the Hudson River and SoHo neighborhood.

5. CCA BD’s Collaboration Enables CCA’s CMI Data Center Project Win

In June, Plaza Construction was awarded the contract to build the China Mobile International (CMI) Data Center Development project in San Jose, Calif. Seamless collaboration between Plaza Construction, CCA South America and CCA UniBuy resulted in winning the contract to build the approximately 287,000-square-foot project that includes a 9,000-square-foot substation enclosure. The two-story data center and five-story office building will be CCA’s first data center project in California. The project is strategically important for the company for market expansion and business innovation.

6. Royal Caribbean Headquarters Expansion Breaks Ground

Plaza Construction broke ground in November on Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL) new headquarters and campus redevelopment project in Miami. RCCL, which is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange, is one of the largest employers in South Florida. The project includes a new 10-story, 350,000-square-foot building, a 1600-space parking garage, a 30,000-square-foot daycare and gymnasium building, the renovation of two existing buildings totaling approximately 300,000 square feet and redevelopment of the entire campus and all amenities.

7. Gerritsen Inlet Bridge Wins Multiple Awards

In April, the Shore (Belt) Parkway Bridge project over Gerritsen Inlet in Brooklyn won the 2018-2019 Construction Achievement Project of the Year Award from the Metropolitan Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the 2019 Project of the Year from New York State Society of Professional Engineers. Completed by CCA Civil in October 2018, the new bridge carries more than 200,000 vehicles daily and is a vital transportation link in Brooklyn.

8. Amador Convention Center Opens to Public

The Amador Convention Center opened to the public in May with its first event during the 2019 International Workers’ Day. The opening brought together former Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela and Chinese Ambassador to Panama Wei Qiang and approximately 3,500 construction workers. Upon completion, the Amador Convention Center will be the largest and most advanced international convention and exhibition center in Central America.

9. New York Infrastructure Project LIRR on Schedule

The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Expansion Project, a signature project for CCA, is moving forward on schedule. In June, the replacement of the 66-year-old Cherry Lane bridge was completed, and in July, the elimination of the first under-grade crossing at Urban Avenue was achieved. The two milestones were reached within 48 hours over the weekend by following a strict schedule. CCA Civil not only fulfilled its commitment of on-time delivery but also improved road safety, the commuting system and the regional economy.

10. Shore House Completes and Welcomes Residents Home

In March, Shore House, a 72-unit boutique condominium developed by Strategic Capital and built by Plaza Construction, officially commenced closings and received its first TCO. Meanwhile, Shore House also welcomed residents home. Shore House is part of the larger Park and Shore development, the first condominium development in the area in nearly a decade and the fastest-selling new development in Jersey City. Its combination of Manhattan-caliber amenities, high-quality design, unprecedented views and beautiful waterfront location has garnered significant interest from buyers and brought vibrancy to the community.
