Another Big Win for the MTA Fulton Transit Center Project

NEW YORK – (May 17, 2016) Plaza garnered another accolade, the Platinum Award of Building Team Awards, from Building Design + Construction (BD+C) magazine for the iconic MTA Fulton Transit Center (Fulton Center) project. This award is the highest honor extended by the highly respected magazine. This impressive recognition joins the list of other stellar awards which includes the 2015 ENR New York Project of the Year and 2015 Construction Achievement Project of the Year Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers – Metropolitan Section.
Located in Lower Manhattan on Broadway between John and Fulton Streets, the $1.4 billion Fulton Center is a major portal into the New York City subway system, with an average of 300,000 travelers passing through the transportation hub each day. Referred to as the downtown “Grand Central,” the beautifully-designed public transportation center features natural light, an atrium, spiral staircases, and aboveground pedestrian walkways that connect commuters to 11 subway lines: A, C, J, K, R, Z, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. The one-of-a-kind ceiling was designed to reduce background noise, with a breathtaking domed “sky reflector-net” oculus that allows passengers to see the sky from inside the building.
BD+C Building Team Awards recognize newly built projects that best exemplify the collaboration between owner, architect, engineer, and contractor to produce buildings that exhibit architectural and construction excellence. Submissions are judged based on the quality and excellence of the design/engineering/construction as well as how the building team (architects, engineers, contractors, CMs, subcontractors, building owners, developers, government entities, etc.) worked together to overcome challenges that resulted in the success of the project.
